Locate People Now (“the Service”, “we”, “us”) helps people find and check on one another during emergencies. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this Policy.

Information we collect

• Account information. A username, a password (stored only as a secure hash — never in plain text), and an optional public display name. No email address is required to create a profile.
• Location. Only when you choose to share it. You may share an exact or an approximate location. You can share your location from the website or, if you install the app, allow it to update your location.
• Status and messages. The safety status you set (for example “I'm Safe” or “I Need Help”) and any messages you post.
• Reports about you. Other signed-in people may report a status about you (for example marking you “Found”). These are shown separately and are always attributed to the person who filed them; they never change your own self-reported status.
• Technical data. Basic server logs and local browser storage used to keep you signed in and to remember your chosen language. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking.

How we use your information

• To let your family and others find you and see whether you are safe during an emergency.
• To show your public profile, status, location, and messages to people who search for you — only if you have turned on public sharing.
• To operate, secure, and improve the Service.

Public by choice

Your profile is private until you turn on public sharing. When you make it public, your display name, status, shared location, and messages can be seen by anyone who searches your name or opens your link. You can turn public sharing off at any time. Please do not share information you do not want to be public.

Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. Information you choose to make public is, by design, visible to others. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of people.

Data retention

We keep your information while your profile exists. You can stop sharing at any time, and you can request deletion of your profile and associated data by contacting us.

Security

Passwords are stored as secure hashes and traffic is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser's local storage for essential functions only: keeping you signed in, remembering your language, and recording that you have seen our cookie notice. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Your choices

• Turn public sharing on or off at any time.
• Share an approximate location instead of an exact one.
• Request deletion of your profile and data by contacting us.

We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows when it last changed.
